Wil Peters from WE Blend by Willa Drew

October's Book: WE Blend

Genre: A Rock Star Romance
Author: Willa Drew
Character: Wil Peters
Pronouns: He/him

WD: Hi there. What should I call you? Do you prefer a nickname?
Wil: My passport says Wilhelm Peters but everyone calls me Wil.

WD: Wil it is. Welcome, and thanks for agreeing to talk to us today.
Wil:
Hey. Always up for a chat.

WD: Can I get you something to drink? Water? Soda? Coffee? Wine? Whiskey?
Wil: Got a beer back there? I’d prefer a Pilsner but I’ll take anything.

WD: One Pilsner on the way. While we wait, tell me a little about yourself.
Wil: Me? Regular bloke. Nineteen. Just finished my first year of uni, am on the rowing team, and like to DJ at clubs: gets me some extra cash—to spend on the… you know.

WD: We don’t. Care to elaborate?
Wil: I don’t kiss and tell. Use your imagination.

WD: Maybe later. How about an easier question? Where d’you live?
Wil: LA. But I’m from Bremen, in northwest Germany. (holds up his hands) Surprise.

WD: What brings you to LA?
Wil: Luck. I’m hanging on the UCLA campus thanks to the Starlight Foundation. I landed a spot in their Future Filmmakers annual competition. D’you know it?

WD: Is that the one where amateurs from around the world compete in teams to make a short film and get a chance to go on to work in the movie business?
Wil: That’s the one. I’m the sound engineer on the Blue Team. (Wil leans in and winks) And we’re gonna win.

WD: Good to know. Do you have any hobbies?
Wil: Sure. I love music. Both on and off stage; I’ve even tried my hand at writing a few songs here and there, but DJing is more my speed. There’s something about mixing sound together, blending beats. Sound editing is stable as a career and the money is good. Plus, I know I’m brilliant at it.

WD: I have no doubt. What are some of your likes and dislikes?
Wil: Keeping things simple. Can’t say no to a good party, a couple beers with my friends—normal stuff. If I fancy you, I make it easy: we hang out, no strings, go our separate ways in the morning. No fuss, no muss.

I don’t like… complications.

WD: Complications? Is that your greatest fear?
Wil: Greatest? I wish. Truth? Losing my mum. She’s been getting sicker, and I worry about her. If I only had more money, so she didn’t have to think about that at least. Bloody money rules the world, doesn’t it? Plays with people’s lives. So many could be saved if money wasn’t a scarce resource, because of the rich jerks hogging it for their jets and million-dollar mansions in Malibu.

WD: Malibu? Sounds pretty specific. What if you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?
Wil: Is this an interview or a therapy session? I’ll have to come up with something like not growing up without a father. Mine bailed before I was born, and my mum refuses to talk about the loser.

WD: Do you have siblings?
Wil:  Nope. Only child. Mum says after me there was no need to have any more kids. Guess that makes me perfect.

WD: Liking the self confidence there. Let’s switch gears. Do you have a girlfriend?
Wil: I don’t the girlfriend thing.

WD: Do you have a secret?
Wil: Who doesn’t? And before you ask, not telling you. If it ever comes out, you will know. The whole bloody world will know.

WD: Is there anything you want to say to your fans?
Wil: Let’s go grab a beer? Follow me on insta @DJStoneHelm? Come see El and me perform at the Devil’s Martini every Saturday at 8pm. We have a great set list.

WD: It’s in my calendar. Speaking of, our time is up. Thanks, Wil, for chatting with me today. Hope you’ll come back soon and let us know how that competition goes.
Wil: You got it. Sure you don’t want to go for a beer?

About the Book:

Stage name. Secret plans. Real love.

Escaping the shadow of my famous rock-star step-father… and the paparazzi, is how I find myself microphone-in-hand at a bar off campus wearing a disguise and my heart on my sleeve.

I just want to sing. I need melodies like I need air to breathe. Music isn’t just some hobby: it’s my everything. And from the moment Wil steps on that stage next to me, I know my life won’t ever be the same.

Our connection is instant. We want each other almost as much as we want the money. He’s in the States on scholarship, and I’m trying to make my way in the industry. We forge an alliance, not knowing the secrets we both keep.

Even tangled in a duet of lies, we make sense . . . we blend. Together, we could have it all. Or lose our hearts.

WE Blend is the first full-length romance in the WE Series about El and Wil. If you enjoy reading about music and forced partnerships, all mixed with a bit of international flair, this friends-to-lovers slow burn romance is for you.
